Tax Aide

Volunteers from AARP Tax-Aide will be assisting with taxes at three Santa Rosa County libraries beginning in February and continuing through April 15. The AARP Tax-Aide program is the nation's largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, providing service to millions of low and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older.  Patrons are served on a first come, first served basis.  Pre-registration is not accepted and space is limited, so arrive early! Storytime

Santa Rosa County Libraries provide storytime for 3 to 5 year olds who are able to attend without a caregiver during the following times from March 23 through May 1:

•              11 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library

•              11 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library

•              11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library

•              11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library

•              11 a.m. on Fridays at the Pace Library

In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times.

Hopeful Hearts – Navarre Library

Fridays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

A series of meetings for "Hopeful Hearts," a bereavement support group, will be held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The weekly sessions will address grief support and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. All materials will be provided, refreshments will be served, and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate.  The programs are held at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Genealogy Research Assistance – Milton Library

Mondays 9 a.m. – noon, Tuesdays, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon and Tuesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., library volunteers are available at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St., to give general genealogy research guidance, one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers, and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Geocaching 102: Hider’s Delight – Gulf Breeze Library

March 7, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Come meet and greet fellow geocachers and learn about some more advanced aspects of geocaching like creating a route, GSAK and a special presentation on making awesome hides! There are nice caches around the library and the park across the street from the library. There will be a fun game to play for cool swag and a fun digital scavenger hunt in the library for the kids. Please bring a bag lunch. The Library will provide cookies and beverages. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.

Meet the Author:  Martha Lee Dickson – Pace Library

March 7, 10 a.m.

Martha Lee Dickson, a local resident, library patron and author, will be speaking and showing photographs at 10 a.m. on March 7, at the Pace Library from her book Anchors of Faith: Early Wooden Churches of the Deep South. Her book chronicles 145 old country churches throughout Alabama, and other Southern states. Copies of her book available for sale and her autograph. The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace.

Friends of the Navarre Library Board Meeting – March 9, 10:15 a.m.

Movie Matinee – Navarre Library

March 10, 2 p.m.

Join fellow movie lovers on the second Tuesday of every month at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early with this classic movie. You’ll enjoy stories of a leprechaun’s stolen pot of gold and his attempts to retrieve it to avoid becoming human. Each program is open to the public and there is no charge or registration required. Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library. Friends of the Pace Library Annual Meeting – March 10, 5:30 p.m.

Friends of the Pace Library Board meetings are held at the Pace Library at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every other month beginning in January. This month they are holding their annual meeting. Who’s Your Mama’s Granddaddy? Beginning Genealogy Workshop – Milton Library

March 14, 10 a.m. – noon

Have you ever wondered what you would need to do to begin your family tree? Have you seen genealogy charts but didn’t know how to fill them out? Are you a little overwhelmed in trying to figure out how to begin your family history research? This workshop is for:

•         Beginning genealogists

•         Those who think they might be interested in genealogy and family history

•         Anyone who would like help in filling out genealogy charts

•         Anyone who wants a little more direction in basic genealogy research

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:

•         Fill out a simple family tree, called a pedigree chart

•         Fill out a family group sheet

•         Learn genealogy standards for recording information

•         Discover sources to begin researching your family history

Adult Sewing Class – Gulf Breeze Library

March 24, 5:30– 7 p.m.

Can’t find an outfit that fits just right? Ms. Shelly Brunson will discuss the professional fitting of garments at the Gulf Breeze Library. Participants can bring an ill-fitting garment and learn how to fit it to their body. She will also explain how to adjust patterns and how to take proper measurements. This program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze. 

Spring Break Crafts – Navarre Library

March 16-18, 10:30 a.m. – noon

Be crafty during spring break. In honor of Youth Art Month, youth ages 8 – 12 can join Debbie del Tejo at the Navarre Library for fun and creative projects. Preregistration at the library is required. There is a maximum of 12 participants per workshop. Each participant can register for a maximum of two of the three classes. Hospice Hour – Navarre Library

March 25, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

A series of hospice programs will be presented at the Navarre Library on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Shannon Snowden, R.N. of Emerald Coast Hospice will explain how hospice services work, what types of services are provided, and when hospice services might be beneficial. The program will be held in the Navarre Library Meeting Room, located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.
