An investigation is underway by the narcotics unit of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office after deputies seized a 48 pounds of marijuana worth more than $100,000.
According to a SRSO press release, deputies were alerted about a suspicious package by the U.S. Postal Service on Thursday. Upon receiving the call, both the department’s narcotics unit and K-9 unit were dispatched to the scene.
A K-9 unit alerted deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics in the suspicious package in question, according to the press release. Upon inspection, deputies found the packaged marijuana inside. The package was in the process of being shipped to an address in Gulf Breeze, the release said.
No arrests have been made in the investigation at this time.
“Although an arrest has not yet been made, this significant amount of marijuana will not make it to the streets of our County,” the press release said.
