Martin Luther King Day events planned Saturday through Monday

 Weekend activities celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day are scheduled in Milton this weekend. Event organizers with the Fellowship Churches of Santa Rosa County will be accepting non-perishable and canned food items at each event scheduled below. The collected items are donated to area families in need.

Prayer Breakfast

On Saturday, a prayer breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. and take place in the Santa Rosa County Auditorium, located at 4530 Spikes Way.  Tickets are $10 per person. For more information contact Murray Hamilton at 736-1976, or by email at murrayhamilton55@yahoo.com.

Commemorative Program

The Commemorative Program begins at  6 p.m. on Sunday at the historic Mt. Pilgrim African Baptist Church, located on 5103 Dr. Martin  Luther King Jr. Drive.  The 2015 MLK King and Queen will be crowned and the 2015 Community Award recipient will be presented. The event will feature guest speaker Rev. Jeremy Rich from Thomasville, Georgia. For more information contact Soroyal Sinclair by email at SoRoyal77@gmail.com.

MLK Day Parade

 The parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday beginning Milton High School and travel south on Stewart Street ending on Elva Street. The parade line up begins at 8:30 a.m. A parade entry fee is $30 per vehicle, float or walking  unit. Parade fees must be received by Saturday. A $10 late fee will be charged after the deadline. Parade applications are also available at the Santa Rosa County Area Chamber of Commerce building at 5247 Stewart Street in Milton. Parade fees can also be paid at the same location.

MLK Memorial Ceremony

The recognition ceremony will take place on Monday, Jan. 19 at Mt. Pilgrim African Baptist Church, located on 5103 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. For more information on this event, contact Mary Johnson at 225-1725 or by email johnsonmejohnson@aol.com.

MLK Block Party

The block party − including food, games and entertainment in a family environment − will begin at noon on Monday at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Booth rentals are available for $25.
