Milton Garden Club's Community Pride Award for March 2015

The Milton Garden Club has announced its Community Pride Award recipients for the month of March. The residential winner was the home of Steven and Jennifer White at 4106 Berry Circle in Pace.

Spring officially begins March 21 and everyone will be happy for this long gray winter to be over. There has, however, been a bright spot of color for all to enjoy at the home of Steven and Jennifer White at 4106 Berry Circle in Pace. This yard has been lovingly maintained throughout the cold winter months. By the left side of the garage is a tall planter filled with the succulent known as hens and chickens. On the right side of the garage is a little garden with a gardenia bush, ornamental kale with its bright fuchsia and dark green leaves, and pansies. At the start of the walkway are two planters with variegated liriope, which has green and white leaves, and blue and yellow pansies. In the middle of the yard is a red maple tree. In front of the house, right under the windows are some large amaryllis bulbs that are starting to send up green leaves. Later they will produce beautiful large red flowers. Trimmed to a nice low mound in front of them are four lndian hawthorn bushes which will have pale pink flowers. Between the bushes are last fall's chrysanthemums which are starting to show some new green leaves. In front of the lndian hawthorn bushes are more ornamental kale and pansies in white, yellow and purple. Pansies, as well as being pretty in the garden, are also edible and can be put in salads, as they are high in vitamins A and C. The snapdragons are looking very healthy and should start blooming soon. The leaves of society garlic promise to send up beautiful lavender blooms later in the spring. The crape myrtle will have dark purplish leaves and deep pink flowers. The lawn mowing in this very neat yard is taken care of by the couple's two wonderful sons, Austin White and his younger brother, Tyler White.

Gardening seems to be a family affair and the Milton Garden Club is proud to give their Community Pride Award to the Whites for month of March. To view this yard take Berryhill Road west past Hammersmith to the second right, which is Luther Fowler Road. From there take the second right again onto Berry Circle and continue towards the back of the circle. Drive slowly and enjoy their yard.

The award for a non-homeowner for the month of March goes to Charter Bank at 4104 Highway 90 in Pace. Bank manager, Lechia Froman, says the credit for the care and maintenance of the plants goes to New Land Development of Pace. Teller operations manager, Nicole Starkie, says she sees them outside planting, pruning, and mulching as often as once a week. There are Chinese holly and yaupon holly bushes, nandina, sago palm, creeping juniper, and variegated liriope. The three crape myrtles will flower in pink later this summer. There are two palms by the left front of the bank that have grown quite tall. A large patch of yellow and purple pansies near the doors draws the eye all the way from the street. Red mulch keeps the weeds down and makes everything look nice and neat. The Milton Garden Club would like to thank Charter Bank of Pace for keeping things colorful through the dreary months of winter. Congratulations to our winners for March 2015.
