Pace man charged with attempted murder

CODY WAYNE BLACKWELL

A Pace man was arrested last week for attempted murder, reckless display of a firearm,  aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, aggravated assault (domestic violence).  Cody Wayne Blackwell, 25, deputies report, tried to shoot a man inside of a car and struggled with his ex fiancé who was trying to stop the incident.

Reports said Blackwell was threatening the victim,  a friend of  his ex fiancé, and sitting in a car in an apartment complex parking lot. Reports indicate the ex fiancé and Blackwell were still living together in the apartment. After pointing the handgun at the car, the ex fiancé grabbed Blackwell’s right wrist and pulled his arm down to the keep him from shooting the victim. Reports said during this struggle the gun fired at the ground.  Deputies report the victim jumped from the car and began to run. Blackwell broke away and ran after the victim.

Reports said damage to the asphalt was found where the bullet was fired and struck the ground. The bullet ricocheted and struck the driver side of Blackwell’s vehicle which was parked beside the victim’s vehicle. The bullet was not found at the scene. The firearm was retrieved and secured, reports said.

Blackwell was taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail and bail was set at $108,500.
