Captain Charles A. Reese, MC, USN (Ret) retired after 32 years active service on June 24th at the National
Navy Museum, NAS Pensacola. His words are, “I’ve had a lifetime of experiencing the Navy adventure.”
Reese is the son of Captain Walt Reese, USN (Ret) and Mary Reese who reside in Milton. They feel fortunate
their son’s final tour of duty has been with NAMI (Naval Aerospace Medical Institute) and he and his wife Marcy reside relatively close in Pensacola.
Reese’ Navy adventures included earning a PhD in anatomy, medical school and surgery internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Virginia to become a Navy doctor. He earned his ‘Wings of
Gold’ as a flight surgeon at NAS Whiting Field and NAS Pensacola. Reese’s retirement program was especially meaningful for his father, Walt Reese, as the retirement program had a picture of the Super Radar Constellation aircraft on the front cover. It was the aircraft flown by VW4, the Navy Hurricane Hunter Squadron and the aircraft is MH1 at the time Walt was the VW4 commanding officer, and the leader of Crew 1. MH1 was Crew 1ʼs airplane and there was warm feeling of appreciation for its front cover position.
Another meaningful part of the retirement program the flag was presented to his father Captain Walt Reese during the flag presentation. The particular flag presented flew over USS Intrepid, CVS-11, the aircraft carrier his father served aboard as navigator during Vietnam.
