'Some people don’t get check ups like that'

MILTON — The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, city of Milton and Woodmen Life hosted the Senior Expo and Health Fair March 15 at the Guy Thompson Community Center with support from Santa Rosa Medical Center.

Local vendors filled the gymnasium, ranging from volunteer groups like Guardian ad Litem to retirement communities like Homestead Village and health insurance companies like United Healthcare.

According to Faye Henry with the RSVP, this year’s event has grown since last year.

“It gives people information on the community they don’t always know about,” Henry said. “The city of Milton did surveys [on] the seniors asking, 'If you need this service, where would you go?’ and most of them did not know.”

Another feature of the event was free health screenings including blood pressure, hearing and cholesterol.

“Some people don’t get check ups like that,” Henry said. “And they’ll get information about disasters and getting prepared for the next hurricane season, which is also important.”
