Rock throwing incident leads to conviction for Milton resident

Milton resident was Gregory Omar Johnson, 30, was convicted on Tuesday by a Santa Rosa County jury for aggravated battery on a person age 65 years or older with a deadly weapon and throwing a deadly missile in an occupied vehicle, according to a press release from State Attorney Bill Eddin’s Office.

The incident occurred on October 28, 2013, when Johnson was at the Dollar General store on Stewart St. in Milton with Barbara Baggett.  According to the release, both Baggett and Johnson were arguing at the scene.  Baggett then called on a  family friend to come and pick her up.

When Lenville Lainhart, 71, arrived to retrieve Baggett, Johnson apparently threw a large rock at the vehicle. The rock struck Lainhart in the head causing a laceration. Johnson also threw a second rock at the vehicle striking the vehicle near the driver’s window.

Lainhart reported the incident to the Milton Police Department, who canvassed the area and eventually apprehended Johnson a few blocks away from the location of the incident.

Sentencing for Johnson is scheduled for February 11 before Circuit Judge John Miller, who presided over the trial.  Johnson faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 30 year to life in state prison.
