Superintendant Dan Brown of the Gulf Islands National Seashore is shown receiving the Milton Pride tag holder from President Elect John Stone of the Santa Rosa Sunrise Kiwanis club. The knowledgeable Supt. Brown spoke about the country's largest seashore, the Gulf Islands National Seashore which is 160 miles long, including all 48 miles of the Santa Rosa Island. He reaffirmed the importance of the barrier islands and explained that they are moving from natural causes from east to west and the importance of dredging the shipping channel in Mississippi between the Ship Islands and Petit Bois Island. He said it is no easy feat to move 22 million cubic yards of sand. There is Federal money of one half Billion dollars to rebuild Ship Island because of the "Camille Cut" said Brown. He also addressed the problems with Ft. Pickens road and the fact years from now the end of the island will disappear. He also told of good news relating to the BP oil spill reimbursements. Santa Rosa Sunrise Kiwanis welcomes all to their Wednesday 7 a.m. meetings at Tanglewood Golf Course where breakfast is served.
