Carol Boston believes children are best prepared for life by learning something every day, not just while they’re in the classroom. “Education is a lifelong endeavor in every aspect of life,” she said.
“I’m a great advocate for STEM education,” she said, referring to science, technology, engineering and math education. “I’m working with a liaison with Air Force Bright Horizons, an AF STEM workforce strategic roadmap, to bring technology to our school system,” she said. Boston has thrown her hat into the race for SRC School Board District 3. She believes vocational opportunities for students is vital to the local economy by forming relationships with local businesses by providing education to students and a workforce with those local businesses. Expanding the workforce needs with local universities is a great opportunity for the community and, Boston said, she wants to expand the programs we already have.
“I’m a candidate for the children, teachers, and education,” she said. “I believe in being calm, reasonable, and pragmatic. Just because a process is going well doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Every organization can seek improvement,” she said.
Boston said she is the only candidate currently working in the Santa Rosa County school system. She is working as a substitute teacher and has since 2001.
“I am a multidimensional candidate. I understand the school system from the teacher, parental, student and administration’s perspective. I’ve taught all grade levels in the school system plus I have sales and business experience and am currently serving on the county zoning board,” she said.
Boston said she is a firm believer parents should decide what type of education is right for their child. She said she supports public, private and home school opportunities. “It’s great we have options for education. We aren’t all square pegs. Some of us are stars, some are ovals. All children are different and learn in different ways and some will flourish in a different type of education,” she said.
Boston said she is endorsed by Santa Rosa Professional Educators, and is a Take Stock in Children mentor. Boston said held the seat of chairman of the School Advisory Council and held the seat for 13 years. She is a youth leader at Gulf Breeze Baptist Church and worked in the ministry for 6 years.
