A Milton man was arrested Sunday night when Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s (SRSO) deputies were dispatched to a physical disturbance. Milton Police Department and SRSO were at the scene, according to reports. Benjamin Caleb Toomey, 23, Milton, was arrested for aggravated battery, kidnap, cruelty toward child resulting in physical or mental injury, and resisting officer without violence. Reports said Toomey struck the victim in the face on the right side because the victim wanted to get out of a vehicle Toomey was driving. Deputies said the eye was swollen shut. Reports said witnesses stated to deputies Toomey had fought earlier with someone else. Another witness told deputies the vehicle Toomey was driving was seen driving erratically earlier with a woman screaming ‘help me.’ Deputies said when Toomey was read Miranda rights, he said he wanted a lawyer in response. Reports said Toomey was transported to Santa Rosa County Jail without incident and is being held with $26,000 bond.
