On Tuesday, March 25, West Florida Hospital will offer a free community seminar entitled “Importance of Early Detection of Colorectal Disease” from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in the hospital’s seventh floor auditorium, 8383 N. Davis Highway, Pensacola. The session will be presented by gastroenterologist Donald Denby, M.D.
The colon, also known as the large intestine, is part of the digestive system. The colon is a long, muscular tube at the end of the digestive tract that processes waste before elimination. Many functional and structural disorders can affect the colon’s ability to work properly, such as colorectal cancer, polyps, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. At the seminar, Dr. Denby will discuss many of these common disorders, including how they are diagnosed and treated.
