Synopsis: This show is the true essence of comedy/tragedy. It is the story of three sisters: Meg, Babe and Lenny McGrath, who reunite at the home of their granddaddy in Mississippi after Babe shoots her abusive husband. The trio was raised in a dysfunctional family and each has endured her share of hardship and misery. This play is witty, funny, drama and will enable the audience to journey through the full spectrum of emotions displayed onstage.
This play won a Pulitzer Prize for drama and the Critics Circle Award for "Best American Play." Later, a movie was made starring Sissy Spacek, Diane Keaton and Jessica Lange.
Auditions dates are January 6 & 7, 6 p.m. We are seeking: four females and two males. The characters are as follows.
Lenny McGrath: Oldest sister, 30s-40s, caretaker to Old Granddaddy, loves her sisters but is also jealous of them, but at same time very loyal to her sisters. She carries a heavy burden of responsibility.
Meg McGrath: Middle sister, 20s-30s, failed singer, irresponsible.
Babe McGrath Botrelle: Youngest sister, 20s-30s, shoots her attorney husband, low self-esteem and possibly suicidal.
Chick Boyle: McGrath sister's first cousin, late 30s-40s. Demanding, ego-driven, self-centered, verbally abusive.
Doc Porter: Meg's old boyfriend and currently married, 30s-40s. He is a failed medical student. He still remains friends with the McGrath family – especially Meg.
Barnette Lloyd: Babe's attorney, 30s-40s. Ambitious, talented. He develops an attraction to Babe.
