ECUA: Call to schedule trash pick-up

Santa Rosa County residents can expect to see ECUA’s compressed natural gas garbage trucks from the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority providing trash retrieval services in the area. The ECUA encourages residents to register for trash retrieval services within the county.

Now that the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority will be providing sanitation collection services for Santa Rosa County, the ECUA wants residents to register for sanitation pick up.

“We are urging people to contact us as soon as possible…because we are scheduling our truck routes,” said Jim Roberts, the ECUA’s public information officer. “It will help out our planning much better.”

The ECUA will begin collection services in Santa Rosa County on Jan.2.

By servicing county residents, the ECUA expects to increase their fleet of compressed natural gas sanitation trucks from 100 vehicles to nearly 175 by next year, Roberts said.

Roberts estimated that the change in sanitation retrieval will effect between 25,000 and 30,000 residents in the county.

With exceptions to the City of Milton, NAS Whiting field, the Town of Jay, Gulf Breeze and Navarre – which provide their own sanitation services, customers can expect twice-per-week sanitation collections, depending on customer’s location within the county. Retrievals will either take place on Mondays and Thursdays or Tuesdays and Fridays.

The charge for residential solid waste service is $51.27 each quarter. Santa Rosa Customers can also request a 96-gallon recycling cart at no additional charge. Recyclables are collected once a week.

Yard trash will be collected every other week and bulk waste will be collected upon request.

Residential contact information is available by request by contacting the ECUA Customer Service Center at 476-0480 or by email at customer.service@ecua.fl.gov.
