Ice covers the blueberry bushes at Blue Basket Farms on Highway 89 in Milton during the worst cold snap in decades. According to Manager Ben Ellison, sprinklers were turned on at the farm Monday to create an ice coating on the bushes. He says the ice serves as a blanket to protect the blueberry plants from sub-freezing temperatures. Sprinklers ran non-stop until the cold snap was over. The process, known as “frost and freeze protection”, not only prevents damage to the crop, it also provides a beautiful and rare photo opportunity.

The farm will be open to the public in late April, based on when the blueberries are ready for picking). Find them on Facebook for harvesting updates.
