Dear Editor,
For many years of so-called studies, wasteful spending of money, now there’s talk of destroying much of downtown Milton by widening Highway 90. To those of us who love our little town, we will do what we can to prevent that from happening. I will list 6 reasons why I believe the north route bridge over Blackwater River is the best choice and I challenge the new mayor, city council members and county commissioners to list three reasons the southern route or widening Highway 90 through downtown is the best route.
The northern route, bridging over Blackwater River connecting to Berryhill Street would 1. Cost the least amount of money to build; 2. Would be the nearest route for East Milton residents to reach Santa Rosa Medical Center; 3. Would cut down on the heavy traffic load through downtown Milton; 4. Could handle all traffic to and from Russell Harbor Landing; 5. It was chosen approximately 14 years ago by FDOT; 6. It would be very helpful in the vent of a disaster to evacuate East Milton residents.
The courthouse location will be on the ballot in November. If the bridge location were to be on the ballot also, the citizens of Santa Rosa County can express themselves, and not base the decision on a ‘so called’ petition.
