County attorney bids farewell

In the midst of appointments and eating-on-the-go and the minutia associated with change, Santa Rosa County Attorney Angie Jones took time from her last day on the job to reflect over the last four years of her time with the county. Jones said she thought of what a positive experience it has been.

By and large, she said, those she worked with, elected officials, the staff, and citizenry have all been good people. She said county leadership has been competent and said, “The staff, some of them have worked there 10, 20, 30 years. They’re good at their jobs.”

Before her position with the county, Jones said she practiced law in the Milton and Pace area for 14 years. Jones said she’s going back to the very same practice from whence she came. “I’ll still be in real estate and land law,” she said, only out of the spotlight now.

Jones said, “I’ll miss the staff. Those 390 people are really remarkable folks.” Jones said she expects to interact with the commissioners in the future. “They were good at listening and taking advice. I did my job as having little impact. I advised the commissioners so they’d have the impact.”

The most rewarding part of her time with the county, Jones said, was being a part of working with Whiting Field. She said, “The last four years, we acquired development rights for hundreds of acres around Whiting Field.” At the same time, she said, those living there still could utilize the land.

The move, Jones said, will mean more time with her children. “My boys are 8 and 10,” she said. “I don’t think they know what I do, really. They just notice when I’m not home. I have a wonderful husband who supports whatever decision I make.” With no plans to seek any public office or move higher professionally, Jones said, “I’m a Santa Rosa County native. I always want to be here. I have roots here. My family is here.”
