Christmas events planned for railroad museum

Scale model trains will be one of the main attractions at the West Florida Railroad Museum this month, during their annual ‘A Lionel Christmas’ events. Families can also allow their children to enjoy a reading of “The Polar Express” also available at the Milton museum throughout the month of December.

The West Florida Railroad Museum is celebrating Christmas throughout the month of December with their annual ‘Lionel Christmas’ and the first-ever “The Polar Express” events.

George Wilson, one of the museum’s board members and event organizers, said the holiday-themed event continues to attract area residents and tourists.

Whether it is on a Friday or Saturday, Wilson estimates nearly 20 will visit the museum, during one of the Lionel events.

“The kids love seeing the trains and riding on the (children’s) train,” Wilson said. “The adults love seeing a thing of the past.”

In addition to the four different scale model railroads, the museum dinning cart will be decorated for the holiday season. The dinning cart will remain in use during “The Polar Express” events, presented by RJ Events.

“I think this is going to be really fun for the kids,” said RJ Events co-founder, Jennifer Weideman.

Children of all ages are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas while attending this event, which is designed and coordinated to please the fans of the popular book. Children under the age of two get in free.

Attendees are taken into the car, where the train conductor will read “The Polar Express.”

During the event, attendees are treated to hot chocolate and cookies. A photographer will be available for family photos. A portion of the proceeds from the “The Polar Express” event will benefit the railroad museum, Weideman said.

‘A Lionel Christmas’ is available on the first three Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in December. It will also be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Although the event is free, monetary donations to the museum are accepted. For more information on the Lionel Christmas event and the West Florida Railroad Museum visit wfrm.org.
