Dear Editor,
Does anyone care about the fact there is no longer any way to recycle our plastic, glass, metal and paper in Santa Rosa County?
Every day when I drive to work I look at the beautiful blue sky and white clouds and I thank God for the beautiful view when in other parts of the world people can’t see the sky because of pollution. Then I think how fortunate we are to breathe air purified by our state forest when in other parts of the world people must wear masks when they go outdoors.
Does any of the 161,096 people in Santa Rosa County care about what happens to their recyclable material when the county waste department tells their customers to put their recyclable material in their regular garbage to be disposed of at the landfill? Does anyone care when Waste Pro is putting recyclable material together with their garbage to be taken to the landfill? Does anyone care a decision is yet to be made to hire a new company to handle recyclable material after the bids were closed May 6? I, for one produce one tall garbage bag of recyclable material a week plus one bag of paper. Multiply that by the number of people in Santa Rosa County and you know the rest. Does anyone care? If you do, please contact your elected officials. Someone told me recently they will remember this tragedy at election time. I’m waiting and listening.
