Blood donors have the power to help breast cancer patients

Blood donors hold an important role in helping many women battling breast cancer.  The harsh effects of chemotherapy can take their toll on patients, and as a result, many cancer patients require blood and platelet transfusions throughout their treatment.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, OneBlood encourages people to share their power to save lives by donating blood or platelets in honor of the more than 1.6 million people battling cancer.

All donors who give at OneBlood Donor Center locations between October 1 and October 21 will receive a limited edition t-shirt designed to show you are helping in the fight against cancer by donating blood or platelets.

Each blood type holds a unique power to save lives. Donors are encouraged to target their blood type towards specific donation methods to maximize their lifesaving gift.

People who have A+, B+, AB+, AB- and O+ are perfect candidates to donate platelets. To find out more about the importance of platelet donations visit http://www.oneblood.org/learn/donation-methods/platelet-donation.stml. People with O-, B- and A- blood are encouraged to donate whole blood or double red blood cells.  To find out more about each blood type and the power it holds, visit www.oneblood.org/target-your-type.  To schedule an appointment, visit oneblood.org or call 473-3853.
