Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office reports one deputy was injured following an arrest in Milton Thursday night. Milton resident Gregory Allen Johnson, 37, is facing multiple charges including two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, kidnapping – false imprisonment, damage to property, resisting an officer with violence and other charges, according to Rich Aloy, public information officer for Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Reports said deputies were dispatched to a disturbance on Sleepy Hammock Drive. In an altercation, Johnson stabbed a male inside a residential home.
According to reports, a resident claimed Johnson had been staying at the home since May of this year and was recently released from the West Florida Medical Center for psychological treatment. Reports said at the time of the incident a female resident claimed Johnson had been heavily medicated.
Deputies report prior to when the incident occurred, Johnson became belligerent and was told to leave by residents. Johnson then packed a duffle bag and left the home only to return shortly after with a knife in his hand, reports said.
During the incident, Johnson made threats against residents, reports said, even holding the knife to one of their heads. Johnson also got into an altercation with one of the residents in which one person was stabbed in the arm and left abrasions on his back.
After 911 was contacted and law enforcement arrived on scene, deputies said Johnson allegedly threatened to kill the residents if they attempted to leave.
Deputies were able to safely get the occupants − including four children – outside. Deputies then encountered Johnson, who was armed with a knife.
In his arrest report, Johnson said he had put the knife in duffle bag as to vandalize a bus. A bus, listed at an undisclosed location, was later reported to be vandalized with approximately $500 worth of damage.
Aloy said Johnson refused to put the knife down and exit the home.
After deputies maintained a parameter around the home, Johnson “continuously refused to obey lawful commands to exit the home and put the knife down,” said Aloy.
Johnson threw a knife a deputy and ran down a hallway while deputies attempted to apprehend him, deputies said. Johnson said he did not remember authorities telling him to put the knife down, “due to him blacking out,” reports said. Furthermore, Johnson said he was aiming to throw the knife at a tree and wasn’t sure where the knife had went, reports said. One deputy was injured in the incident.
After Johnson gave chase towards the back of the home, several deputies were then able to take him into custody.
Johnson is currently held without bond at the Santa Rosa County Jail.
