Two Santa Rosa County Teams experienced a new beginning Friday night, Sept. 19th. Milton defeated Pensacola High for the first time in their house under Coach Chafin Marsh’s leadership. The Patriots conquered their first season win against district rival Washington on the road.
Milton
Pensacola High and Milton High both entered the fourth week of action with 2 wins and 1 loss.
Pensacola High came to Panther Country knowing that the Panthers had not beaten them on Panther soil in recent history.
The seniors on the field had never experienced beating Pensacola High in front a enthusiastic home crowd.
Pensacola High scored first 7-0 but the Panthers were not intimidated. Panther Junior Shemar Johnson was dragged down on the 2 yard after a 41 yard run toward the end zone. Johnson then finished his play with a touchdown evening the score 7-7.
The Panthers entered the third quarter stronger and passionate. Senior Dominique Craig rushed for touchdown with a 25 yard run. Milton hit the extra point and went ahead by 1.
A new game was on as Craig carried the ball again this time for a 48 yard touchdown. Milton 21 Pensacola High 13.
Pensacola High was penalized for tackling receiver Kolby Floyd setting up the Panther drive to score again. Craig pushed the ball down the field with three carries to the 1. Milton’s E.J. Hurst completed the drive increasing Milton’s lead 28-21. The Panther’s field goal was successful. Milton won their first season district game.
Pace
Flash back to 2013 for the Pace Patriots Football Team. They had lost the first three games of the season until they played the Washington Wildcats. The Patriots beat the Wildcats for Pace’s first 2013 season win and a district game.
Currently 2014 for the Pace Patriots Football Team. They have lost their first three games of the season until they played the Washington Wildcats this past Friday night, Sept. 20th. The Patriots bulldozed the Wildcats for Pace’s first 2014 season win and a district win at that.
Pace captured the District 1-6A game against the Wildcats 35-18.
Anthony Johnson Jr. scored the first Patriot touchdown that set the tone for a great Patriot night. After a 59 yard run that got him within touchdown distance Johnson pushed the ball across for the Patriots from the 1. Brett Birmingham finished the play with a successful kick.
After a 57 yard touchdown from running back Quaide Weimerskirch, Pace widened the gap 14-0. Birmingham again kicked it through the goal posts for Pace.
During the second quarter Johnson completed his second touchdown of the night of off a 24 yard run with kicker Birmingham scoring on the kick.
At half time the score was Pace 21 Washington 3.
The third quarter was scoreless for both teams.
The fourth and final quarter Wiemerskirch completed a touchdown from a 64 yard run followed by the extra point off of Birmingham’s third successful kick of the night.
The Wildcats did attempt a 4th quarter comeback but Pace’s Chase Lambert ‘s deflection and resulting touchdown ended that Washington strategy.
