Walt Schumann, (Captain Whitebeard), along with the other Blackwater Pyrates presented checks to the winners of the annual Mill-Town Duck Race. Schumann said contest participants adopted 4,000 ducks. The first prize of $1,600 went to Emerald Coast Coins, received by Stephanie Dodson. The second prize of $500 went to Murphy Cassidy Diesel Repair, received by Gene Alligood. Finally, the third prize of $100 went to individually represented Susan “Bayou Bell” Leiterman. Alligood said Murphy Cassidy Diesel Repair would donate its prize to the Santa Rosa Kid’s House. According to Dodson, Emerald Coast Coins’ prize would help buy supplies for the August 9 back to school bash. Sponsors Mike Dallett with Lou Sobh’s Milton Chevrolet and Lisa Mackenzie with McKenzie Motors Buick GMC attended the ceremony as well. Carl “Boot” Whitson said the race is the Pyrates’ only fundraiser to support efforts like the Coast Guard Auxiliary and river cleanups. Everything the Pyrates do, he said, must adhere to the Pyrates’ mission of promoting river safety, history, and cleanliness.
