Students, parents and school staff did their part to make sure area families had food on the table for this week’s holiday with their annual Thanksgiving food drive.

“We have people that have been doing boxes for the past 10 to 15 years,” said Dee Copeland, the school’s SGA sponsor. “They just depend on us.”

This year the Milton chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star donated $500 to the SGA in order purchase frozen turkeys for each meal box.

Copeland said on average the school stocks around 60 boxes a year for the event.

“This is teaching kids about good community service,” Copeland said.

Over the past couple of weeks first period classes organized competitions among students to see who will collect the most non perishable food items.

In addition to the frozen turkeys, each box had enough to prepare enough for the main course, side items and even dessert.

Several of the SGA officers decorated a meal boxes for the event, some featured a turkey, a cow and others featured a fall theme.

While each box was filled by SGA members on Tuesday morning, the boxes were delivered to the families later that afternoon.
