Remembering King Deniyi’s of Nigeria’s visit to Milton, 1957

Dear Editor,

In December, 1957 it was one of the coldest winter months for Milton. Back then food and gas were a lot cheaper. On December 2, 1957, a Nigerian prince visited Milton to be a guest at T. R. Jackson High School. His name was Prince Madarikan Deniyi, supreme King of Nigeria, West Africa. He was the guest of Professor T. R. Jackson and spoke in the auditorium of the school. He spoke to a Parent-Teachers Association meeting and he’d also spoken in Biloxi, Mississippi to a large Sunday morning audience at the First Missionary Baptist Church and Sunday night at the Main Street Baptist Church on December 1, 1957. I was born on December 13, 1957 on a Friday and from what I was told, it snowed. What’s unique about all of this is that this year on December 13, 2014, I will be 57 years old. I feel like a king in my heart because I asked the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords to save me from crack and alcohol. King Deniyi told the students to be honest in all the things you do. Parents nowadays don’t make time to instill the words of God in their children. The country is on its way down because of all of the ungodliness in leadership and in the homes.
