FINAL UPDATE w/photos: Joshua Randall Mauldin, 28, arrested in SWAT stand-off

Santa Rosa Sheriff's SWAT members were involved in a stand-off on Appaloosa Ave., in north Milton today, just off Stewart St. Officials reported the standoff lasted about three hours.

It ended just at 3 p.m. with the arrest of Joshua Randall Mauldin, 28.

A sheriff's spokesman says the stand-off began when deputies tried to serve a warrant for violation of probation and take Mauldin into custody. He was ordered out of the house numerous times and refused to come out, barricading himself and a woman inside. Deputies say Mauldin was armed with a gun. Neighbors on lock-down in their homes snapped pictures and forwarded them to the Press Gazette (see related story).

An eyewitness to the events unfolding on Appaloosa Ave., resident Tracy Norwood, said SWAT members used a "flashbang" to bring a man and woman out of the mobile home. Norwood says deputies made Mauldin crawl down the stairs following the flashbang, where he was taken into custody. The woman, who was later identified as Brittany Nicole Slay, 25, Milton, also exited the home.

A Sheriff's report says Mauldin was placed under arrested and put in a Sheriff's SUV when he began kicking the windows and doors, causing permanent damage to the vehicle. Norwood says she witnessed this too and saw deputies take Mauldin out of the vehicle, and tase him. At this point, Norwood says Slay had been screaming, and was given numerous chances by deputies to calm down. Once Mauldin was tased, Norwood says the woman became uncontrollable and was placed under arrest by deputies.

Sheriff's Spokesman Deputy Rich Aloy says Mauldin is being held with no bond. Slay is incarcerated on $25,000 bond, charged with Posession of Listed Chemicals / Manufacture Controlled Substance.

Mauldin was charged with Felony VOP Warrant: no bond; burglary of an unoccupied structure; 2 counts grand theft; 2 counts dealing in stolen property; possession of a controlled substance; forgery of a check and uttering a forged instrument.

Deputies say no one was injured in this incident.
