Viva Florida “Unearthing Florida”@ the Gulf Breeze Library – Sept. 3, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Mike Tomlin of the Florida Public Archeology Network, Northwest region, will present, "Unearthing Florida" a presentation about the various archeology projects in Florida and their importance for Florida history and culture Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. This program is the fifth in a series of programs to highlight Viva Florida 500 and Florida’s history and will be held in the Gulf Breeze Library meeting room located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze. Hopeful Hearts Bereavement Support Group @ the Navarre Library – Fridays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. A series of meetings for "Hopeful Hearts," a bereavement support group, will be held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. from Aug. 23 through Oct. 11. The weekly sessions will address grief support following an educational outline and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. The meetings will be facilitated by Jennifer Gilbert, MSW of Emerald Coast Hospice. All materials will be provided, refreshments will be served, and no reservation is required. Viva Florida 500 Time Capsule Sealing Ceremony – Sept. 19, 2 -3 p.m. The Santa Rosa County Time Capsule Sealing Ceremony will be held Thursday, Sept. 19 from 2-3 p.m. at the Jay Historical Museum, located at 3946 Highway 4 in Jay. Members of each community voted to decide which items should be placed in the capsule to represent what future generations should know about our county. The following items were chosen to be placed in the capsule: § Gulf Breeze: menus from area restaurants, book about Gulf Breeze § Jay: cotton boll, metered mail § Milton: county seal, canoe § Navarre: turtle, butterfly, beach sand § Pace: Pace Patriot patch, brochures about businesses and cultural activities in Pace § In addition, the library system will include a library card and a thumb drive with various images from around the county. The time capsule will remain on display at the Jay Historical Museum until it is scheduled to be opened in 50 years. This is the sixth and final event scheduled to celebrate Viva Florida 500. Hospice Hour @ the Navarre Library – Sept. 25, 3:30-4:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Diana Skinner R.N., BSN, of Emerald Coast Hospice, will explain how hospice services work, what types of services are provided, and when hospice services might be beneficial. The program will be held in the Navarre Library Meeting Room, located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.
