A Milton woman remains in jail, facing violation of probation charges along with numerous fraud, counterfeiting and illegal use of credit cards after police say she used the identity of a woman for whom she was caring, according to Milton Police reports.
Ora K. Jones was originally arrested in late March, charged with stealing a Discover card from the victim's purse while the woman was at West Florida Hospital, arrest reports note. Jones was employed as a housekeeper and was asked by the husband of the victim if she could sit at the hospital with his wife because of his own health conditions, according to sheriff's reports.
A short period of time after Jones sat with his wife, the complainant says he received a statement from the Discover card company with charges he and his wife did not make, reports say.
Sheriff's officials say their investigation revealed that Jones, 60, Milton, admitted taking the card, but said she had permission to buy food and personal items. Jones alleged she traded sexual favors to the victim's husband in exchange for the use of the card. The husband denied the allegations and became upset when investigators told him what Jones said, according to a sheriff's report.
Deputies say Milton Police became involved in the case because all of the charges were made inside the city limits. Video of Jones using the card was obtained from numerous businesses in Milton. Officials say the businesses where Jones used the card are: Dollar General on Stewart St.; Shell Station on Stewart St.; Pic-n-Save on Stewart St.; Beall's Outlet on Hwy 90, along with Fred's and the Food Outlet. The total charges come to $370.95.
Jones faces a larceny charge; 10 counts of fraudulent or illegal use of a credit card; fraud/impersonation – attempting to use ID of another person w/out consent; 10 counts fraudulent/illegal use of credit cards – used more than two times in six months to obtain goods valued at 100 dollars or more; five counts of counterfeiting – public record or certificate; and five counts of uttering a false instrument.
Jone's original bond was $160,000, but went to a no bond when her probation was violated two days after her arrest. She remains in the Santa Rosa County jail.
