Argonauts to host Comfort Inn Tip-Off Classic and Comfort Inn Thanksgiving Tournament in November PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida women’s basketball coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton announced the Argonauts’ 2013-14 schedule Tuesday. After coaching her first season with UWF in 2012-13, Yelton looks to continue to build the program with a competitive schedule in her second season. After a pair of exhibition contests on the road against Division I opponents Troy and Alabama-Birmingham Oct. 28 and Nov. 2, respectively, UWF will begin the season by hosting the Comfort Inn Tip-Off Classic at the UWF Field House Nov. 8-9. The classic will feature Delta State, Tuskegee and Lynn, with UWF beginning the season against Lynn Nov. 8 before playing Tuskegee Nov. 9. The Argos will then play a pair of nonconference games against Ohio Valley and Arkansas-Monticello before hosting the Comfort Inn Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 29-30 at the UWF Field House. The tournament will begin Nov. 29 with Montevallo playing Southwest Baptist in game one before UWF takes on Claflin in game two. The losers of the two games will play Nov. 30 before the winners play for the tournament title later that day. UWF’s Gulf South Conference season begins on the road at Valdosta State Dec. 14, and the Argos will wrap up 2013 at GSC newcomer Lee Dec. 16. UWF opens 2014 with a pair of home contests against Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama Jan. 4-6 before hitting the road for four GSC contests over the course of the next two weeks. The Argos return home for three consecutive home games Jan. 25-30 and play their longest homestand with four contests Feb.13-22. UWF wraps up the regular season on the road at Delta State March 1. The Gulf South Conference Tournament will be held March 6-9 and will once again be hosted by Samford in Homewood, Ala. The women’s quarterfinals will be March 6, and then there will be an off day March 7 before the semifinals and finals March 8 and 9, respectively. UWF will look to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament beginning with the NCAA Division II South Regional to be hosted by the highest South Region seed March 14-17.
