Gulf Islands National Seashore announces Candlelight Tours of Fort Pickens Gulf Islands National Seashore will present “A Candlelight Tour of Fort Pickens” on Saturdays, Jan. 12 and Feb. 9, 5-7:15 p.m. The free tour highlights Pensacola during the Civil War. Visitors must call 934-2635 for tour reservations and arrive 20 minutes before their assigned tour time. Costumed interpreters will present the history of Pensacola during the Civil War at different stations inside Fort Pickens. Groups of 30 visitors will depart the Fort Pickens Visitor Center every 15 minutes for the hour-long tour. Although the fort will be lighted with candles, flashlights are allowed. Dress appropriately for the evening weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Parking is limited so carpooling is recommended. Superintendent Brown encourages everyone to enjoy the national seashore and join us for our ranger-led programs. Jazz Society of Pensacola monthly Jazz Jam The monthly Jazz Jam, presented by the Jazz Society of Pensacola, will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, at the Unique Café, 51 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL (850) 932-8638, just across the 3-mile bridge from Pensacola in the Quality Inn. Our monthly Jazz Jam generally brings in a full house of musicians and music lovers, and the music is exciting and spontaneous. The outstanding house rhythm section includes David Shelander (piano), Steve Gilmore (bass) and George Neidorf (drums). Roger Villines, trumpeter and director of the Pensacola State College jazz ensemble, leads the session. Full menu service is available, as well as a full bar. $8 for JSOP members with Membership Card, $10 for non-members, $5 for students with ID, to cover cost of paid rhythm section and support Jazz Society programs. Performing musicians are invited to sit-in and they are admitted free (drummers, please bring your own sticks). Students are welcome. The beauty of a jam session is that one gets to hear combination of musicians not likely to be heard elsewhere. Great music, always fun!

Jazz Society of Pensacola’s Blue Monday set for Jan. 14, to feature Clarence Bell and The Fellas “Clarence Bell and The Fellas” will be the featured group for the monthly JSOP’s Blue Monday, Jan. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Five Sisters Blue Café, 421 W. Belmont St., (corner of Belmont and Devillers) Pensacola. Pianist Clarence Bell is a long-time performer in the Pensacola area, and at one time played with Stevie Wonder. His group will include Steve Ferry (drums) and Tom Latenser (bass), along with featured guest vocalist “Tomato”. Admission is $8 for JSOP members with membership card, $10 for public, $5 for students with ID. Special menu of homestyle Southern cooking and full bar available.

Beethoven and Blue Jeans Pensacola Symphony Orchestra will feature Bridget Kibbey, harpist, at Beethoven and Blue Jeans at 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 at the Pensacola Saenger Theatre.
