A Pace man who deputies say started committing crimes back in May, was picked up over the weekend based on numerous warrants.
Alexander Gaines Kent, 33, 5100 block Waller Lane, Pace, is in the Santa Rosa County jail on $32,000 bond. Sheriff’s reports say he is responsible for breaking into his former employer’s shed and stealing tools; stealing two motorcycles; fleeing from officers; and simple assault.
These incidents, according to reports, occurred over a period of three months from April to June, 2013.
It began when his employer reported stolen tools from his place of business. Kent was named as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
In May, sheriff’s reports indicate a resident on Lynn Dr reported a motorcycle stolen from the carport of the home. Investigation revealed Kent was in possession of that motorcycle and had asked someone to help him jump the bike when it wouldn’t start, deputies say. A witness who tried to help Kent, saying he was unaware the bike was stolen, described it to deputies who discovered it had been repainted. Kent could not be located and a warrant for vehicle theft and criminal mischief was sought.
Then in June, deputies responding to a disturbance discovered Kent had been there, but fled the scene on what reports say was a yellow stolen motorcycle. Deputies say they recognized Kent from jail photos and a clothing description given from the disturbance.
When a sheriff’s sergeant attempted a traffic stop on Kent, riding the yellow dirt bike, reports say Kent fled from the deputy and got away. An investigation revealed the dirk bike had been stolen from a resident on Rockwood Dr. The bike was discovered missing after deputies asked questions and located the owner of the bike.
An affidavit was signed for vehicle theft and another warrant was issued for vehicle theft, grand theft of a motor vehicle. Warrants were also applied for citing fleeing to elude law enforcement officer; and simple assault with intent to do domestic violence, according to reports.
On Saturday, Kent was finally arrested and charged with burglary – 2 counts; larceny; vehicle theft – 2 cts; resisting officers; simple assault; and criminal mischief-property damage, according to jail records.
