The 2013 SPHL President's Cup Champions, Pensacola Ice Flyers, have added experience and skill to their blue line with the addition of defenseman Shaun Arvai. "Shaun will be a solid fixture on our backend. He has tremendous experience and can play in all situations," said Ice Flyers head coach Rod Aldoff. Aldoff went on to praise Arvai's work ethic and professionalism by stating, "Shaun is a true professional who shows up to the rink and leads by example every day. His addition will help to solidify our defense corps in our pursuit for another SPHL championship." Avrai is a 30-year-old native of West Lorne, Ontario and spent last season with the Ice Flyers' SPHL foe, Knoxville Ice Bears. He is a left-handed shot, stands 5' 10", and weighs 170 lbs. In 53 regular season games with the Ice Bears last year, Arvai had 25 points (7 goals, 18 assists), 47 penalty minutes, and a +6 plus/minus. He was extremely effective on the power play with 10 of his points (1 goal, 9 assists) coming when the Ice Bears had the manpower advantage. Arvai brings six years of professional experience from the Central Hockey League, the ECHL, the SPHL, France, and Italy. He also played four years of NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Alabama-Huntsville where he was the team captain his senior season.
