An unidentified fleeing driver caused a trooper from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) to strike the back of a 2012 Chevrolet Cruise as the trooper attempted a traffic stop.
FHP says the trooper receiving minor injuries in the crash.
It happened Sunday morning in Milton when Trooper Lebrun, who was working Interstate 10, overtook the Chevy travelling 110 miles per hour. The two vehicles exited the highway, going north on Garcon Point Road, according to FHP. Lebrun turned on his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop and the driver of the Chevy fled approximately two-tenths of a mile, then "braked sharply" causing the patrol car to hit the back of the fleeing vehicle.
As the car continued to flee, it traveled north on Woodville Road "at a high rate of speed", according to reports. The pursuit was called off because the fleeing vehicle entered a residential neighborhood.
Troopers are looking for the vehicle, which had a black male driver.
