Our team, Panhandle Power 01 got 2nd again this past weekend with 14 teams in the competition. The tournament was in Hatiesburg, MS on Saturday March 30. We won our first five games, then lost in the Championship to Mississippi Motion 00. We went ahead of them 4-0, they came back and scored five runs, putting them ahead 5-4, we tied the game in the top of the 5th inning and held them to zero runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Time expired and we played extra innings, with the international tiebreaker rule in effect – which is when you start the inning with a runner at second base. Our first batter hit the ball to their second baseman who got the out at first, which moved the runner to third base. Our next batter hit the ball to the pitcher and on a VERY close call at the plate, the runner was called out at home. Then the batter who advanced to first was call out on a "hesitation rule".
So, now they are up to bat and they get runners at second and third base, I intentionally walk the batter to first to load the bases for a play at home. Well it backfired on me, and the batter hit it right over my shortstop's head for the winning run. I am so proud of my girls – they played four tough games in a row.
