A Santa Rosa County member of Florida Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers program is a top contestant for a statewide award this year. Trent Matthews is one of three finalists selected for Florida Farm Bureau’s Excellence in Agriculture Award. Matthews maintains a family farm operation near Milton. He has earned the opportunity to win the overall award through his involvement in agriculture, participation in Farm Bureau and community service in various civic and charitable activities. The Achievement in Agriculture award recognizes the contributions of Young Farmers and Ranchers who do not derive a majority of their incomes from normal production agriculture risk. Finalists will deliver 25-minute presentations about their careers and accomplishments at Florida Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting in Ponte Vedra Beach in October. The statewide winner will receive $1,200 in cash and an all-expense paid trip to the American Farm Bureau’s 2013 Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn. in January.
