The Houston Astros drafted the 1973 graduate from Milton in the sixth round out of Milton after he pitched 22 consecutive scoreless and hitless innings in the post season for the Panthers. Williams was a member of the Final Four teams in baseball and basketball. After two and a half years with the Astros, Williams went on to enjoy a great deal of success playing slow pitch softball.
