The district schedule got off to some rather interesting moments, especially in District 1-6A last Friday. Pace, who was down 21-7 early in the second quarter, rallied to defeat Pine Forest 38-21. Defensively the Patriots made the necessary adjustments for the win, while the Eagles did not have an answer for J.C. Curry who rumbled for four touchdowns in the win. "The kids maintained their poise," said Pace head coach Mickey Lindsey. "They did a great job in making the necessary adjustments. "We hung in there and did what we had to do because Pine Forest was hot that first quarter." The second key district game occurred in Milton, who hosted Pensacola High. The Panthers fell behind 4-0 before scoring the first touchdown of the game with its defense. Despite the two safeties, one in each half, Milton was not giving up as their defense would bend, but not break. Pensacola found itself deep in its own territory when a snap went over Taylor Nunnelee's head and was loose in the end zone. DeMichael McQueen fell on the football and gave In the end it was the Tigers who won the catfight with a pass from Nunnelee to Reggie Warren from 21 yards out. Week two of district play could prove to be even more interesting as Milton will travel to Escambia High in what some feel is a must win situation for the Panthers. A Milton loss would drop them to 0-2 in District play with games coming up against Pine Forest and Pace. Escambia blanked Tate last week 45-0 Pace will travel to face Washington High, whose lone win so far this season was a come from behind victory over Choctaw. "We are taking things one game at a time," Lindsey said. "Washington is improving every game and got a huge win over Choctaw. "We will have to get after it." The Patriots are not going to take the Wildcats too lightly going into Friday. Jay will return to play after an open week when they travel to play South Walton at 7 p.m. The Seahawks lost to Northview last week 34-7.
