PSC hosts fall job fair

Seasonal job are just around the corner and Friday is your opportunity to find a way to pick up some extra or needed dollars. Workforce EscaRosa and Pensacola State College will be hosting its 4th Annual Fall Community Career Fair on Friday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Amos Performance Studio. The studio is located on the PSC campus in Pensacola at 1000 College Blvd. They are expecting around 50 prospective employers Friday covering fields which include healthcare, communications, retail, environmental, hospitality, correctional, accounting, electrical, aerospace, governmental, manufacturing, administrative, technical and more. "The Amos Studio can hold around 50 prospective employers and we have about 45 committed to be here Friday," said Gil Bixel, Director of Student Job Services at Pensacola State College. "We should max out the venue by Friday." Some of the prospective employers scheduled to be in attendance include – ECUA, FedEx, Gulf Power, Kelly Services, Landrum Staffing, Mediacom, Navy Federal Credit Union, Pensacola State College Human Resources, West Florida Health Care, The Mundy Companies, The GEO Group, Ingalls Shipbuilding, Goldring Gulf Distributing, Florida Fish and Wildlife, Region Bank, Cox Communications, Lakeview Center, Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Aerotek, Strategic Restaurants, and many others. This is just one of four job fairs the college offers each year in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. "We do four job fairs each year that is free and open to the public, which is kind of our way of giving back to the community," Bixel said. "Annually we have one every February which is a multicultural job fair, then this one coming up and one in April with Workforce EscaRosa, and then one in June on the Milton campus." The first ever job fair four years ago drew around 1,100 people and Bixel is expecting 400-500 this year. Bixel noted in September the college and Workforce EscaRosa held a three-day job fair for Marshall's, which is locating to Pensacola that drew over 1,250 applicants over three days. In conjunction with the job fair, Workforce EscaRosa will host a no-cost Career Fair Readiness Workshop on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Pensacola One-Stop Center on North L Street. The purpose of the workshop is to educate attendees on tactics designed to enhance their ability to showcase themselves during a career fair or recruiting event. For those who many be in need of professional attire to wear to the career fair, the Pensacola One-Stop Center on Wednesday will offer those the chance to pick a free suit from the professional suit closet. The apparel is available on a first come, first serve basis from 1 – 5 p.m. Workforce EscaRosa also has One-Stop centers located on Highway 90 in Milton and on North Century Boulevard in Century, Fla.
