The Jay Area Chamber of Commerce met Monday, Oct. 1 at the Jay Community Center. Before lunch at noon, Jay Chamber president Jackie Ard asked Oakland Ard to give the invocation. After lunch, Jackie thanked Donna Tucker and the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce for the lunch, which was catered by The Rose Bowl. Guest, Larry Strain, with the University of West Florida Business Development Center was recognized at the meeting. After Strain’s recognition, the minutes of the September meeting were approved. The Trick-or-Treat event will take place at Bray-Hendricks City Park. It will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Jay Chamber’s Business After Hours was a big success. About 25 people attended the event. The Chamber noted events in October such as The Blue Jeans and BBQ, The Peanut Festival, The Healthy Start Baby Shower, and the Fleet Fly-in. The Santa Rosa County Chamber’s Holiday Breakfast will be held on December 11. And the Christmas Parade is scheduled to be held on December 1. The next Jay Area chamber of Commerce meeting will be held Monday, November 5 in the Jay Community Center at noon. Lunch will be provided by Emerald Coast Hospice.
Cotton Festival
The Jay Historical Society will hold their first Cotton Festival on Saturday, November 24 on its lot behind their museum. The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The entertainment will begin at 12:30 p.m. right after the Town of Jay’s Christmas Parade that begins at 10 a.m. At the festival there will be food and beverage concessions, wagon rides and many other activities. There will be a flint knapper, Winston Burnham, making arrowheads and doing rock carving. During the festival, Santa will make an appearance inside the museum, and donations will be accepted. There are a few vendor spots still available for the festival. For more information, please call Pat Cashman at 675-6970. Admission and parking is free.
