What's happening at the library this month

eBooks are Here!

With your Santa Rosa County library card, you can borrow eBooks from the comfort of your own home.  Search the online library catalog to discover eBook titles. The AXIS 360 “Magic Wall” will provide patrons with a vibrant presentation of eBooks and the ease of locating today’s popular titles. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the two week lending period, ensuring no late fees.

The collection of popular titles by well-known authors is opening with over 200 books. It will be updated and refreshed on a continuous basis. eBooks can be downloaded to most devices with an internet browser, including Apple/iOS, Android and Window tablets, pcs, and smart phones. In addition, approximately 80 classic titles can be accessed via One-Click Digital and children can read eBooks via our Tumblebooks links. The Santa Rosa County Library System has libraries located in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace. Please visit your local library for additional information.

August is Audiobook Appreciation Month

Have you planned a long road trip or decided to do some yard work but wanted to read a good book? Summer reading can also be summer listening. Celebrate Audiobook Appreciation Month by checking out a variety of audio books from any Santa Rosa County Library in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace. We offer books on cd, Playaways and eAudiobooks that you can download from One Click Digital. We have hundreds of titles to choose from. There is something for everyone.

Genealogy Research Assistance – Milton Library

Mondays 9 a.m. – noon

On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon, library volunteers are available at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St., to provide general genealogy research guidance; one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers; and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Beginners and seasoned researchers are invited to use these services. To ensure a volunteer is available to assist you, please call before you visit.

Hopeful Hearts – NavarreLibrary

Fridays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

A series of meetings for "Hopeful Hearts," a bereavement support group, are held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The weekly sessions address grief support and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. All materials are provided and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. 

Heritage Holiday Tree – Gulf Breeze Library

Help us decorate the ultimate Gulf Breeze Holiday Tree. Drop off an ornament that represents your family and life in Gulf Breeze. Are you a big fan of fishing? Create a fun fish ornament. Do you play soccer? A soccer ball ornament with your family name on it would be great! Be sure to paint your name and the year on the ornament and let’s see how many Gulf Breeze folks we can get on our tree. The last day to donate an ornament is Dec 1. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze. 

Super Hero Summer Camp – Navarre Library

Aug. 10, 1 p.m.

You are invited to be a super hero at the summer camp at the Navarre Library. The programs for youth in grades K-5 will be held on Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. The theme for the Aug. 3 camp is Animal Heroes. On Aug. 10, participants will test their endurance at the Super Hero Training Camp. Please note that registration for the Aug. 10 camp is required and limited to the 25 trainees. Patrons can contact the Navarre Library for details. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. 

Summer Movie Afternoons

Extend your summer library fun! Join us for family movie afternoons. A variety of entertaining movies will be shown. The movies are free and open to the public at the listed times and locations. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. READ Dogs – Pace Library

Aug. 8, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Come, Sit, Stay & R.E.A.D. with a furry friend in the Pace Library Aug. 8, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Registration is required. The program is held on the second Saturday of each month at the Pace Library located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace. Contact the Pace Library for more information or to sign up.

Friends of the Navarre Library Board Meeting – Aug. 10, 10:15 a.m.

Board meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 10:15 a.m. at the Navarre Library. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. Please see the Friends website at www.friendsofnavarrelibrary.org for more information.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Directors’ Meeting – Aug. 11, 5 p.m.

Page Turners Book Club – Gulf Breeze Library

Aug. 14, 10:30 a.m.

Join us in the Gulf Breeze Library meeting room for our fiction book club. Page Turners meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second Friday of every other month. This month's selection is “The Martian” by Andy Weir.Read the book before the movie is released!  There is a limit of 20 participants, so please call the library or drop by to sign up and speak to a staff member today about reserving your copy! Solutions for Your Life – Gulf Breeze Library

Aug. 21, 10 a.m.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services will present a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for your life. This month, Mary Derrick is presenting “Citrus for the Panhandle.” Disease, weather, and pests can have an adverse effect on citrus crops. However, citrus can be grown in this area. Join in on the conversation because locally grown fruit just tastes better. Programs are free and open to the public. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr. in Gulf Breeze.

Hospice Hour – Navarre Library

Aug. 26, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

A series of hospice programs are presented at the Navarre Library on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Shannon Snowden, R.N. and Karen Englert, both of Emerald Coast Hospice, explain how hospice services work, what types of services including home health care are provided, and when hospice services might be beneficial. The program is held in the Navarre Library Meeting Room, located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Family Movie – Jay Library

Sept. 1, 6 p.m.

As part of Celebrate Seniors Month, the Jay Library will show a movie about the love between grandparents and grandchildren. Join us as we visit a World of Imagination where you can float down a chocolate river and see Oompa Loompas while enjoying an everlasting gobstopper. This event is free and open to the public. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. The Jay Library is located at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay.
