Three members of Girls Scout Troop 297 recently earned a Silver Award by creating distance markers for area walkers and runners around Spencer Field in Pace. Trinity Moreno, Macy Neal and Emily Hawk recently painted the distance markers along the sidewalks of around U.S. Navy airfield in order to assist walkers and runners along the pathway to measure how far they have traveled.

“They marked Spencer Field loop including east, north, west, and south Spencer Field, said Troop Leader Chrissy Collier Hawk in an email. “Starting at the corner of North and West Spencer (Field roads).”

In an email, Hawk said the distance markers are painted every quarter mile, ending at 3.75 due the loop around Spencer Field not being a complete four mile square.

In earning the Silver Award, the Girls Scout’s second highest award behind Gold, the three girls completed all of the requirements to earn Silver which included completing 50 hours of work. During this time, the scouts worked with county and U.S. Naval officials to approve the project and the design of the markers.

Sherwin Williams of Pace also donated some of the required paint needed to complete the project, Hawk said.
