Herman Dubose, 21, of Milton is facing charges after being a ran over by his girlfriend on Monday. According to his arrest report from the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, Dubose was ran over after laying in front a pickup truck driven by a woman he had only been dating for a couple of weeks.
After meeting with Dubose at the Santa Rosa Medical Center, Dubose told an investigating deputy he had laid down in front of a 1998 Ford Ranger truck in order to keep “her from leaving,” according to the report.
The female said she and Dubose were standing outside near the vehicle at a residence located on Pine Blossom Road. In an interview with the deputy, the girlfriend said Dubose asked if he could drive the truck, in which the female said she did not want him to drive the vehicle.
In her statement, Dubose then pulled a pocket knife and began to stab the passenger side window in attempt to break it. The female then entered the truck’s cab from the driver’s side doors where she then locked the door.
In the report, the actions taken by the female upset Dubose who then jumped into the bed of the truck and attempted to open the rear window, however it was locked.
Dubose then jumped down from the truck after the female started the engine. Dubose then got in front of the truck and told the female he wasn’t going to let her leave and then laid down in front of vehicle.
The female told the deputy, she then heard a rattling noise from the vehicle and thought it was Dubose trying to disable the truck. The female told the deputy she could not reverse the vehicle due to it being near a garage structure and going forward was her only option.
After moving the truck slightly forward, the female heard the vehicle hit something and heard Dubose yell. According to her statement, the female then reversed the vehicle in which Dubose then jumped on the hood and began punching the window with his fist. The impact caused the window to have a spider web crack approximately two feet in diameter. The female said Dubose then jumped from the vehicle and to the driver’s side, in which she then drove away.
In an interview Dubose told the deputy, he did not think the female would drive forward. He also told the deputy he began walking before someone gave his a ride to his mother’s home, in which he was then taken to the emergency room by family.
During the incident, the female told the investigating deputy that Dubose had her cell phone, in which Dubose would later confirm.
After taking multiple statements and investigating the damage to the truck and the tire marks at the residence, the deputy arrested Dubose on charges of false imprisonment and criminal mischief. Dubose currently remains incarcerated at the Santa Rosa County Jail with a $5,500 bond.
