In Tuesday evening volleyball the West Florida Baptist Lady Conquerors defeated the Santa Rosa Christian Lady Eagles in both junior varsity and varsity. JV scores were 25-14 and 25-10 while varsity scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13.
WFBA JV kills included Madison Whiting with 3, and Grace Rolfe, Laney Fanugao and Jessica Lunsford, each with 2. Allie Whiting was hot at the service line with 10 aces in 19 attempts, without a service error. Defensively, Abriana Gonzalez recorded 4 digs and 7 service receptions.
The Conqueror's varsity offense made 30 kills, led by Shelby Brawley with 9, Havii Berry with 6, and Ashtyn Kaunitz with 6 kills as well as 16 assists. To top it off, Taylor Lunsford added 4 aces. Katelyn Leavins recorded the highest passing rating with 10 digs and 4 service receptions.
The victories for WFBA volleyball follow last Saturday’s triumph over the Emmanuel Warriors and Calvary patriots where again, both JV and varsity won their games. Conqueror JV’s victory over the Warriors was a late come-from-behind rally while the team proved strong in serving against the Patriots, recording 19 aces.
Ashtyn Kaunitz and Shelby Brawley had 6 kills each versus Emmanuel in varsity action. MaKenna Hartman added 7 aces to the offensive attack along with Taylor Lunsford, Brittany Lyons and Katelyn Leavins with 4 each. The Warriors' back line attack strategy foiled the blocking efforts of Lyons and Brawley, ending their 5 consecutive matches recording blocks (8 and 13, respectively). Final score v Warriors: 25-10, 25-14 and 25-17.
Notable stats in the Calvary Patriot match were Brawley's 11 kills and 4 blocks, Lyons 6 kills and 1 block, Taylor Lunsford’s 4 aces and Ashtyn's 19 assists. The final line was 25-19, 25-16 and 25-16.
