Pace, Milton fire departments celebrate Fire Prevention Week

Both Pace and Milton residents will be able to receive greater insight into the fire departments which respond to emergency calls in their communities on October 10 when the two fire departments will have open house events. Both events will be in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, beginning October 4th through 10th.

Milton Fire Chief John Reble said this will be the fifth annual event for the city’s fire department, which allows the community to visit the facility, see first response vehicles and receive insight into how the department operates on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s a good opportunity to see how the department works,” Reble said.

He said attendees can get a glimpse of the department’s history through a slide show presentation . Activities inside the building will feature events for children, including a fire prevention puppet show. Fire prevention tips will also be discussed at the event.

Reble said other agencies will be present throughout the Milton event, including the Florida Forest Service, the Florida Department of Health, Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and other first response agencies. A bloodmobile will also be present for those interested in donating.

The Pace department will also feature activities for local families including inflatable bounce houses and a chance to meet Smokey Bear and Sparky the Dog. Pat Wadkins, the district’s administrative assistant, said the last open house event took place during the department’s 50th anniversary in 2009.

“We just want people to come and meet all of us and see what we have,” she said.

Attendees are welcome to tour the district’s facility, located on Pace Patriot Boulevard near Pace High School, and see demonstrations of the district’s lifesaving equipment. The event will also feature door prizes including fire prevention handouts. The district’s first responders will also be on hand to answer questions while attendees can enjoy music and food..

Pace’s open house will also offer blood pressure and child safety seat checks throughout the day.
