Both Dewayne Riley and Karen Trittschuh took the top prizes in their respective categories following the conclusion of Saturday night’s Riverwalk 5K Run in downtown Milton, according to a press release from City of Milton’s Parks Department. While Trittschuh took first place in the female category at 20:53, Riley took the male category with a finishing time of 17:01.
Unfortunately, neither participant was able to beat the record times of Nate Crum (15:46 in 2011) and Susan Smith (20:12 in 2013).
Event organizers considered this year’s annual 5K a success despite inclement weather conditions.
“We had a very positive event despite the threatening weather, which I felt might have deterred some regular runners,” said Kyle Kemp, Events Coordinator for the City of Milton Parks Department. “We got a lot of positive feedback about the run and we are looking forward to next year.”
The running and walking 5K also drew in participants from across Florida including the nearby states of Alabama and Louisiana. Joan Grey, who walked in the event drew the bib prize of $250.
The funds raised from the 5K will be used to assist the City of Milton for youth sports programs at the Guy Thompson Community Center, according to the press release.
