Pastel Artist Elaine Woodward will demonstrate the art of pastel at the Santa Rosa Art Association’s next meeting. Woodward’s interest in art began at an early age, taking her first art class when she was 9 years old. She started oil painting when at 12 and later majored in art in college receiving her BFA from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) with a major in painting. Woodward worked as a technical illustrator for General Electric in Cincinnati, Ohio before moving to this area in 1994. She said she became involved volunteering in schools painting murals in both Dixon Intermediate and Pace High Schools. In 2001, she began illustrating children’s books and continued for about 8 years, completing 60 books. Currently Woodward is involved in two area galleries, the Blue Morning Gallery in Pensacola, and Dragonfly Gallery in Milton. She teaches an on-going pastel class at Dragonfly Gallery, meeting for the last several years. “My favorite medium is pastels but I also work in watercolor, oils, pencil, and make jewelry,” said Woodward.
The Santa Rosa Art Association meets Saturday, November 21 at the Pensacola State College Milton Campus in Building 4900 at 9 a.m. Pastels and paper will be needed for hands on participation.
