Original story-
Cantonment resident Daniel Ferry Lee, 31, remains in custody in the Okaloosa County Jail as the suspect responsible for Tuesday’s armed robbery at the Underwood Food Store in Navarre on Highway 87.
According to an offense report from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses stated the suspect wore a mask with a knife in hand while inside the store. The suspect told an employee “I’m sorry, but I want the money.” The suspect was then able to retrieve all of the cash inside the register.
After asking if there was more cash located under the register, the suspect was told “No! Now Go” by the employee. Witnesses say the suspect then fled the scene in a dark grey Lexus vehicle, which did not have a license plate. After the suspect left, the employee immediately locked the door to the store and called 911.
Updated information-
According to his arrest report, Lee allegedly was spotted by deputies traveling at a high rate on Hwy. 87 and again on Interstate 10. At an accelerated speed of more than 120 miles per hour, Lee had multiple units in pursuit on I-10. The suspect vehicle left the interstate onto Ward Basin Road and eventually found a dead end in which the vehicle turned around and once again entered the interstate while going into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed.
In one instance, a sheriff's deputy had to pull his vehicle off the road in order to avoid a collision with the suspect vehicle. In the report, the deputy believes the suspect intended to cause a collision in order to harm the deputy.
In the pursuit, deputies lost sight of the suspect vehicle on I-10. The vehicle was located a short time later in neighboring Okaloosa County along U.S. Highway 90 in Holt. While the Okaloosa Sheriff's Office found the vehicle abandoned, lee was subsequently found by deputies walking west on the same roadway and taken into custody.
While in custody in Okaloosa County, Lee is expected to be returned to Santa Rosa County and face multiple felony charges including fleeing with disregard of safety to person or property, assault on a officer and robbery with a weapon.
