Pool leagues start next week for seniors, juniors

This is last season's Escarosa NAPA Senior League winning team: Richard Hazucha, JJ Todd, and Frank Sasport. The Senior League starts again January 14, 11:30 a.m. at Oops Alley in Pace, juniors starting the following Sunday.

Thursday, January 14, the senior division of the Escarosa North American Poolshooters Association (NAPA) opens at Oops Alley with the juniors starting the following Sunday. League co-owner, Cynde Watson, said members will enjoy weekly play with tournaments with an end-of-season cash award and covered-dish banquet. She said the overall winners this season will head to a national tournament at Valley Forge Casino and Resort in Pennsylvania.

Senior ages start at 50, Watson said, with disabled veterans allowed in at younger ages. Junior league ages are 8 to 18 years old. Watson also noted the junior division splits between older and younger youth players with coaching from league members.

The cost of play each week is $8, which serves as the source for prize money at the end of the season. All league players earn some amount of money, according to Watson, the majority going to the top three finishers, of course. While juniors play for trophies, Watson said they can’t play for money, so the league offers them a choice in party, whether pizza, a restaurant, or movie.
