Suspected diabetic emergency sends car into bike store

Mark Woolson stands on a platform inside his store, Truly Spokin’, damaged Saturday night when a car crashed through the storefront. The apparent cause was a diabetic emergency according to the Milton police report.

According to a Milton Police Department report, officials suspect Chip Campbell, driver of a black Dodge Neon, “was apparently the victim of a diabetic emergency,” resulting in a multi-car accident leaving two vehicles disabled and Campbell’s Neon stopped almost halfway in the front window of the bicycle store, Truly Spokin’.

Saturday evening, just after 6 p.m., according to the report, Campbell was leaving the Circle K gas station on Stewart Street and Munson highway when he t-boned a blue, Chevy Silverado. He backed up and continued south on Stewart when he rear-ended a white Ford Fusion, rotated, then crashed into Truly Spokin’.

Lifeguard, according to the report, transported Campbell to Sacred Heart of Pensacola. Neither of the other two drivers received medical transport.

The owner of the bike store, Mark Woolson, said he got the call at 6:30 p.m. The accident, he said, knocked the car’s battery onto the store’s floor. The crash damaged bikes from the initial impact as well as glass chipping paint and flattening tires. He said he’s dealing with contractors for repairs, but the store is open.
