To conclude Florida First Responder Appreciation Week, which was issued by Governor Rick Scott in a proclamation for January 4-8, students and staff at Chumuckla Elementary School welcomed first respondering units from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Lifeguard Ambulance Services, the Allentown volunteer fire department for a mock demonstration at the school on Friday. Brad Baker, Director of the Santa Rosa County Emergency Management Agency, hosted the event. In addition to explaining the roles of each first response unit has in answering an emergency call, Baker shared insight into what students should do in order to prevent accidents from happening and what to do should one occur. Christy Baggett, the school’s assistant principal, said the mock demonstration will serve as a learning experience for the students. Each participating first response unit was given a gift bag of goodies as a show of appreciation for what they do.
